We have continued to see strong market growth and more savings. Once again, June was another record month for our net worth.
This month we spent $3,997 (which does not include the travel section as that’s reimbursable from work), This is more in line with our average month. About $700 of those expenses are extra payments toward our mortgage. I look forward to the day that we don’t have to lose that cash flow every month.
I finally got a “new” car!
This month is very exciting and has been a long time coming. I finally dumped my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix for a 2015 Mazda6 with 34,000 miles. I have been looking at cars forever, I knew I wanted a Mazda6, the trim, interior color, and mileage range, but it took several months to find “the one.”
It was tough because I really liked the interior for the 2016 models better than 2015, but when I looked at the price difference I accepted that it wasn’t worth an extra $3k just to get a slightly different interior. And honestly, I’m so happy with this purchase. Some of my favorite features are:
- Keyless entry and start (I love not having to get my keys out of my pocket
- Blindspot detection (this is super helpful on the freeway)
- Bluetooth (I love having my podcasts automatically play through the speakers)
- Backup camera
- AC (did I mention the AC was broken in my old car? And that’s no fun in AZ in the summer)
And now, the question you’re all probably wondering, how much did Mr Fi Guy spend on his car? I did go through a dealership, so that did increase the costs, but all in the car cost $16,594.72. Definitely not as cheap as I could have gone, but I plan on owning this car for the foreseeable future. And the fact that we have a pretty healthy income and savings rate, I felt comfortable with the price.
We also paid for the car in cash. If you’ve never done that before, I can tell you that it’s a pretty good feeling. It’s nice knowing that you own the vehicle free and clear, no payments, it’s yours. If you can’t do this today, I hope that someday you will be able to experience this for your self.
